How we rate anti-ageing skincare
Our review compares anti-ageing skincare on customer satisfaction, so you can find out what other Aussies think about the compared brands before you go ahead with a purchase. Think of it as like asking hundreds of your closest mates which anti-ageing skincare they think is best!
How many Australians do we survey for our ratings?
Canstar Blue surveyed 877 Australians for their feedback on the non-prescription/over the counter anti-ageing skincare product(s) they have purchased and used in the last 12 months.
- The outcomes reported in these ratings are measured via accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics.
What criteria are used to rate anti-ageing skincare brands?
Respondents rate their satisfaction with their anti-ageing skincare brand(s) from zero to ten, where zero is extremely dissatisfied and ten is extremely satisfied. Brand satisfaction was rated by respondents on the following criteria:
- Overall satisfaction: measures consumer satisfaction with an anti-ageing skincare brand as an individual score NOT a combined total of all criteria.
- Effectiveness: the skincare product resulted in visible skin improvements.
- Value for money: the price was reasonable given the quality and quantity of the skincare product.
- Texture & consistency: the skincare product had a texture well suited to its type (i.e. gel-based product foamed well, serum easily absorbed into skin, etc.).
- Packaging: the packaging was functional and allowed for easy dispensing and storage.
- Scent: the skincare product had a pleasant scent that wasn’t overwhelming.
How do we determine the winner?
The winning brand is the one that receives the highest Overall satisfaction rating once all the scores from the Overall satisfaction criteria are combined and averaged.
- Overall satisfaction is asked as a specific question and represents an individual measure, not a combined total of all criteria.
- When we cannot determine a clear winner from the criteria for the Overall satisfaction rating, we will then look at the other criteria measured in the rating.
- The brand with the highest number of five-star ratings within the supporting criteria will become the five-star recipient in overall satisfaction, and thus win the award. If a clear leader still cannot be determined from the supporting criteria, joint winners will be declared.
Which anti-ageing skincare brands do we rate?
Brands must have received at least 30 responses to be included, so not all brands available in the market have been compared in this survey. The brands rated in this survey are listed below in order of best overall satisfaction.
- Olay
- Clinique
- The Ordinary

The use of accredited research panels managed by Qualtrics adds an additional layer of credibility to the data collection process.
The criteria employed in rating anti-ageing skincare brands are crucial indicators of a product's effectiveness and overall appeal. Respondents rate their satisfaction on a scale from zero to ten across several dimensions:
-
Overall Satisfaction: A holistic measure of consumer satisfaction with a specific anti-ageing skincare brand.
-
Effectiveness: Assessing the visible improvements in the skin resulting from the use of the skincare product.
-
Value for Money: Evaluating whether the price of the product aligns with its quality and quantity.
-
Texture & Consistency: Considering if the product's texture is well-suited to its type, such as a gel-based product foaming well or a serum easily absorbed into the skin.
